Al-Namrood is an extreme metal band from Saudi Arabia that was founded in 2008 in the province of al-Sharqiyya .

History and background

The band was founded in 2008 by the then singer Mukadars and keyboardist Ostron with the aim of combining metal with oriental folk music. A little later, Mephisto joined the band as a guitarist and bassist. He also suggested limiting the metal character in Al-Namrood's compositions to Extreme Metal, which gave rise to the band's current style.

The band is one of the few groups that was able to gain a foothold in the Middle East . At the moment it is still very active in the underground , but has achieved a low level of awareness, especially regionally. The band name is derived from a historical ruler of Arabia by the name of Nimrod , who demanded human sacrifices in a cruel way .

Al-Namrood is under contract with the Canadian metal label Shaytan Productions , which specializes exclusively in oriental music from the black metal and dark ambient milieu. In 2020, the seventh studio album, Wala'at, was released, which, like all the others, was recorded in their own home studio.

The musicians have considered leaving the country and going into exile in the past . However, the requirements of the immigration laws are too high. However , the musicians refuse to apply for status as a refugee .

style

The band combines the hypnotic style of Norwegian black metal groups with oriental percussion . The groaning or rumbling singing makes it difficult to understand the texts that have not been published for security reasons. The texts are all written in Arabic , but will not be published in print.

Classical Arabic musical instruments such as Oud and Kanun are also used in Al-Namrood's music.

The band is directed against tyranny, social injustice and religious bondage. Mephisto countered the accusation that Al-Namrood worshiped the devil : "The devil does not exist."
