Alain Bernaud
Alain Bernaud (born March 8, 1932 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) is a French composer.
Life
Bernaud comes from a family of musicians. His father played the violin and viola, his mother, a pianist, was the daughter of the former choirmaster of the Opéra-Comique , Marcel Chadeigne . He had his first lessons with the pianist and composer Jacques Lamy , a friend of the family.
In 1938 he came to Paris, where he took piano and solfège lessons from Marie-Louise Boëllmann . At the Conservatoire de Paris he attended Lucette Descaves ' solfège class with Michel Legrand , Roger Boutry , Jean-Michel Defay and Alain Weber , studied piano with Jules Gentil , harmony with Jacques de la Presle , counterpoint and fugue with Noël Gallon and composition with Tony Aubin . In 1957 he won the Premier Grand Prix de Rome with the cantata La Fée Urgèle by Françoise des Varennes after Théodore de Banville .
During the stay at the Villa Medici in Rome, which was associated with the award, Bernaud a. a. a saxophone quartet, a mass, a symphony and an orchestral overture. After his return to Paris, Bernaud made a name for himself primarily as a composer of film scores. In addition, he was professor of solfège, since 1971 of harmony at the Conservatoire de Paris . After retiring in 1999, he moved to Brittany, where his Requiem for choir and orchestra was written in 2006 .
