Die Große Kapriole (Original: La Grande Cabriole ) is a four-part, French - Italian - German television film about the time of the French Revolution with Fanny Ardant from 1989. In Germany, the series was broadcast in seven episodes at the end of 1992 on television.

action

In June 1789, people across France were suffering from famine and the French Revolution was imminent.

The two noble siblings Alexandre and Laure-Adélaïde grew up in the small town of Châteaudun together with the children of the area. Armand Gallois, the son of a cloth merchant, and Augustin Bardou, whose father is an innkeeper, are Alexandre's best friends even years later.

Laure-Adélaïde finally marries Count Jules de Chabrillant and has two daughters with him. The count is extremely polite and aloof and therefore gives his wife a lot of freedom to use what she knows how to use. For several years, Laure-Adélaïde has had a secret affair with Armand, who has since become a writer. They meet regularly in a hidden mill on their property, although they have tried several times to break away from each other. One day Laure-Adélaïde rides impatiently to the mill to tell Armand that she is leaving him for good.

Although Augustine actually dreams of becoming a soldier, he bows to his father's will and attends a seminary. When the storming of the Bastille takes place and the feudal system in France is turned upside down, Alexandre finds himself and his relatives helpless at the mercy of the mob. The flight abroad becomes inevitable. On the other hand, events come at just the right time for Augustine, as they give him the opportunity to leave seminary and join the military.

More years pass. Laure-Adélaïde may have lost her status and her fortune, but regained her freedom in her exile in Lombardy . Augustin is now a respected officer of Napoleon Bonaparte and wants to fulfill another dream that he has cherished for years: he wants to conquer the previously inaccessible Laure-Adélaïde for himself. In addition, he wants to take revenge on the former feudal lord for all humiliations because of his simple origins.
