Eduard Wilhelm Breitfeld

Eduard Wilhelm Breitfeld (born July 31, 1803 in Johanngeorgenstadt , † December 3, 1873 in Erla ) was a Saxon entrepreneur , councilor and member of the state parliament .

Life

The son of Zinngießermeisters, tradesman and Quarter Master Carl Wilhelm wide field (1754-1811) and his wife Christiane Friederica Weickert was by his marriage to Johanna Christiana Nestler since 1830 son of Ore Hammer Men Carl Gotthilf Nestler . He was the owner of the Rothenhammer near Oberwiesenthal and in 1831 took over half of the mountain buildings in Engelsburg and Augustinzeche near Preßnitz . In 1836 he founded the company Nestler & Breitfeld together with his father-in-law . a. the hammer works Wittigsthal , Arnoldshammer , Rothenhammer in Rittersgrün , Siegelhof in Großpöhla , from 1836 Erla and from 1854 the nail factory in Mittweida belonged. Since his father-in-law left the company in 1856, Breitfeld has been the sole owner of the company and has also worked as a community council and justice of the peace in Erla. After his death in 1873, his three sons Guido , Richard and Alexis Breitfeld took over the company.

From 1839 to 1845, as a representative of the 16th rural electoral district, he was a member of the Second Chamber of the Saxon State Parliament in Dresden , but then declined to be re-elected and to be appointed to the First Chamber in order to be able to fully take care of his extensive industrial sector.

Honors

As an appreciation of his "restless activity, often associated with great difficulties, and multiple services to the welfare of his workers, which he had earned in good and bad times for the livelihood of the near and distant surroundings and their working population in general", he was awarded on 29 August 1867 appointed by King John to the Royal Council of Commerce . On June 18, 1872, he was also awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Civil Merit “in recognition of his services to the Upper Ore Mountains iron industry and his charitable work that was dedicated to the public interest”.
