Alain Martel (born May 11, 1959 ) is a Canadian pool player .

Career

Alain Martel began at the age of seven years with the billiards . In September 1999 he reached 17th place at the US Open . In February 2000 he lost the final of the Molson Cup 10-Ball Championship to Alex Pagulayan . After he had finished thirteenth at the BCA Open in May 2000 , he reached the round of 32 at the 9-Ball World Cup in 2000 , in which he lost 4: 9 to Alex Pagulayan. In January 2001 he won a tournament on the Joss Northeast Tour for the first time . At the 9-Ball World Cup in 2001 , after defeating Tommy Donlon , Chris Melling and Leonardo Andam , among others , he moved into the semi-finals, in which he was defeated by the eventual world champion Mika Immonen 7:11. A year later , however, he retired as sixth in his group in the preliminary round.

In 2004 Martel won the Canadian Open 9-Ball Championship by beating Erik Hjorleifson in the final . At the 9-Ball World Cup in 2005 he reached the round of 32, in 2007 he made it to the round of 16, in which he lost 8:11 to Mika Immonen. In 2008 he won the Canadian Open 9-Ball Championship for the second time. In 2009 he was invited to the World Pool Masters for the first time . Due to problems with his visa, however, he could not compete and was replaced by his compatriot Tyler Edey . In August 2009 he won the Canadian Open Championship in the 9-ball and 10-ball disciplines. At the 10-Ball World Cup in 2009 and the 9-Ball World Cup in 2010 , he was eliminated in the round of 64. After finishing second at the Canadian Open Championship in 8-Ball and 9-Ball in 2010, he won the Canadian Open 8-Ball Championship in 2011 with an 11-5 final win over Harvey Shognosh .

At the World Cup of Pool 2007 , Martel and Edwin Montal formed the Canadian team that reached the semi-finals after victories against Vietnam, South Korea and Belgium, but lost 9-0 to the Finns Mika Immonen and Markus Juva .

At the team world championship 2010 Martel was part of the Canadian team, which was eliminated in the preliminary round.
