Alan Garnett Davenport

Alan Garnett Davenport (born September 19, 1932 in Madras , India , † July 19, 2009 in London , Canada ) was a Canadian mechanical engineer and professor at the University of Western Ontario . He worked and researched wind loads on tall buildings and bridges.

Life

Davenport was born in Madras, India (today: Chennai ) and grew up in South Africa . There he attended the Michaelhouse boarding school in KwaZulu-Natal . He later studied mechanics at Cambridge University , where he earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts . He obtained another Master of Arts from the University of Toronto . He received his PhD from the University of Bristol on The Treatment of Wind Loads on Tall Towers and Long Span Bridges in the Turbulent Wind .

Davenport died in London, Ontario after complications from Parkinson's disease . Davenport was married and had four children.
