Alan John Oxley

Alan John Oxley (born August 2, 1919 in Durban , † September 16, 2011 ) was a South African diplomat.

Life

Alan John Oxley was the son of JP Oxley. He attended Highbury Preparatory School and studied at the University of Natal . From 1941 to 1945 he was used by the Union Defense Force .

In 1946 he joined the South African Foreign Ministry as a cadet. On February 4, 1948, he was part of the delegation to the independence ceremony in Colombo . In 1949 he was Secretary of the Embassy in Cairo . From 1950 to 1953 he was Secretary of the Mission in Athens .

From January 27, 1954 to March 1, 1957 he was consul in Elisabethville . From 1957 to 1960 he was employed in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1960 to 1963 he was deputy head of the delegation to the conference of the International Labor Organization . In March 1961 he represented South Africa at the Prime Minister's Conference of the Commonwealth of Nations . In 1961 he was a delegate to the High Commission in London. In 1962 he was Consul General in London. In 1964 he was a delegation counselor to the London High Commission. From July 21, 1965 to January 31, 1969, he had exequatur as consul general in Wellington . From November 1, 1970 to 1973 he had the personal rank of Ambassador Exequatur as Consul General in Tehran . From 1973 to 1977 he was Under-Secretary in the Department of Foreign Affairs. From 1977 to 1983 he was ambassador to Canberra ; then he was retired.
