Alan North

Alan North (born December 23, 1920 in New York City , † January 19, 2000 in Port Jefferson , New York ) was an American actor .

Life

North served in the United States Navy during World War II . He began his acting career in 1950 with an episode role on the television series Inside Detective . After a few more television roles, he worked as a stage manager on Broadway from 1955 . He made his Broadway debut in 1964 in the production Dylan about the life of Dylan Thomas . It was not until 1971 that he received his first feature film role. In the Neil Simon - Comedy Hotel whispers he served as Mr. Eisler to see. In the television series The Naked Gun , he played Leslie Nielsen's superior, Captain Ed Hocken . The series was not granted a success, it was canceled after only six episodes. In the hugely successful film adaptation Die Nackte Kanone , however, the role went to the more prominent George Kennedy . North also starred in the films Highlander , The Fourth Protocol and The Fortune Hunters, among others .
