Alarije
Alarije is an autochthonous white grape variety from Extremadura in southwestern Spain. It is approved in the DO Ribera del Guadiana and recommended for main use in the Cañamero subzone of this DO. The main growing areas are the provinces of Badajoz and Cáceres . At the beginning of the 1990s, a planted vineyard area of 1093 hectares was raised.
It is believed by Paul Truel that Alarije belongs to the Malvasia family.
The grape variety is relatively insensitive to heat and drought. It produces straw yellow wines that are mostly blended with others .
Synonyms: Alarije Dorada, Malvasia de Rioja, Barcelonés
Ampelographic varietal characteristics
In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:
- The shoot tip is open.
- The large leaves are almost pentagonal and five-lobed (see also the article leaf shape ). The stem bay is open in a V-shape. The blade is bluntly serrated.
- The medium-sized grape is dense. The round berries are medium-sized, hinted at disc-shaped and have a yellowish color that can turn into amber.
Alarije is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ). It has hermaphroditic flowers and is therefore self-fruiting. In viticulture , the economic disadvantage of not having to grow male plants that produce yield is avoided.
