Alas is an Indonesian Desa ("village") in the district ( Kecamatan ) East Kobalima ( Kobalima Timur ) on the island of Timor .

geography

Alas is located in the center of the East Kobalima District ( Malaka District , East Nusa Tenggara Province ). North lies the Desa Kotabiru , south the Desa Südalas ( Alas Selatan ), west of the district Kobalima and eastern borders Alas to the neighboring state of East Timor .

The administrative center of the district is in Alas.

Residents

In 2010 there were 1,590 people in Alas. The majority of them belong to the Bunak ethnic group . Most of the Bunak are descendants of refugees who left Maucatar in East Timor when it was given to the Portuguese by the Dutch in 1916 .
