South Alas ( Alas Selatan ) is an Indonesian Desa ("village") in the district ( Kecamatan ) East Kobalima ( Kobalima Timur ) on the island of Timor .

geography

South Alas is located in the south of the East Kobalima District ( Malaka Administrative Region , East Nusa Tenggara Province ). To the north is the Desa Alas , to the west is the Kobalima district and to the east, South Alas borders the neighboring state of East Timor . In the south is the Timor Sea .

South Alas is in the tropics. The annual average temperature is 24 ° C, the annual rainfall is 1705 mm. The month with the lowest rainfall is August with 13 mm. In January the rainy season reaches its peak with 310 mm of precipitation.

Residents

In 2010 there were 2,361 people in southern Alas. The majority of them belong to the Bunak ethnic group . Most of the Bunak are descendants of refugees who left Maucatar in East Timor when it was given to the Portuguese by the Dutch in 1916 .
