history

Alas Uruguay was founded by former employees of PLUNA (first as Alas-U ) and took over 250 former employees of PLUNA. The start of operations with a charter flight to Asunción (capital of Paraguay ) with a Boeing 737-300 (ex- Ukraine International Airlines ) was announced for February 2015 . Two more Boeing 737-300s should join the fleet in mid-February and March 2015.

Ultimately, on March 11, 2015, the Boeing 737-300 was the young company's first aircraft to arrive at the Aeropuerto Internacional de Carrasco . The then chairman of the board of directors of Alas Uruguay, Cesar Iroldi , announced the start of operations shortly on the occasion of this event. In this respect, the company named mid-April 2015 as the date. According to Iroldi, the company employed 53 people at the time. By October 2015, business operations should be carried out with four aircraft. This should cover the flight routes Montevideo - Asunción , Montevideo - São Paulo , Montevideo - Rio de Janeiro and Punta del Este - Buenos Aires .

Finally, ticket sales began on December 21, flight operations were announced for the last week of December 2015 and the first flight took place on January 21, 2016.

The company ceased operations in October 2016 after less than a year for financial reasons; As a result, the state development fund FONDES sued in court because Alas Uruguay refused to file for bankruptcy. If the lawsuit is upheld, the development fund could get some of the original $ 15 million backing from the proceeds of the liquidation. Alas Uruguay is hoping for a buyer.

Destinations

The first destinations planned were Buenos Aires and Asunción . Rio de Janeiro , São Paulo and Santiago de Chile were to be added later .

In December 2015, the Alas Uruguay's fleet still consisted of three Boeing 737-300s , two of which had winglets . In mid-2016, however, a Boeing had to be returned to the leasing company.
