Alaska is a Swiss ska and reggae band from Pfäffikon in the canton of Zurich .

history

The band was founded at the end of 2003 as an initially loose constellation that mainly played cover songs. Gradually other band members joined the band and after the addition of drummer Florian Vogler in mid-2004, who was doing his Matura work with Alaska in the form of the CD production of the debut EP Claiming Land , the band was completed by the singer Fabian Grütter. In autumn 2004, Alaska made its first public appearance in a boy scout home in Zurich- Oerlikon . By mid-2009 the band played almost 150 concerts throughout Switzerland and abroad and released a total of three CDs .

In February 2008 the band played their first concert tour abroad with a two-week tour of Russia , followed a year later, in February 2009, with the next with a two-week concert tour of Great Britain . In the summer of 2010 Alaska played at the famous This Is Ska! Festival in Rosslau (D) and worked on their third album "Will That Be Enough", which they recorded themselves in their own studio. The album was mixed by Django King Django in Version City Studio in New Jersey (USA) and mastered by Alan Douches in New Windsor (USA). The album was released on Leech Records in January 2011 .

The band name "Alaska" comes mainly from the French word combination "à la Ska" and is supposed to mean the mixing of different styles of music with the Ska style.

style

The songs from Alaska are mostly kept in the style of traditional Ska with influences from reggae , rocksteady , soul and jazz . In older songs you can hear influences from 2-tone and third wave ska.
