from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Albert of Strehlitz (Polish Albert strzelecki ; Czech Albert Střelecký * ~ 1300 /10; † 1366 /75) was from 1313 to 1366/75 Duke of Opole part Duchy Strehlitz . In 1327 he subordinated his land to the Crown of Bohemia as a fief .

Life

Albert came from the Opole branch of the Silesian Piasts . His parents were Bolko I. von Opole and Gremislava or Agnes NN. After his father's death in 1313, the Duchy of Opole was divided for his three sons. Albert, the youngest, received Strehlitz . His eldest brother Bolko von Falkenberg received Falkenberg and the second-born Bolko II of the same name received the Duchy of Opole, which had been reduced by the above areas. Since Albert was still a minor when his father died, he was initially under the guardianship of his eldest brother Bolko. Albert resided in the ducal castle in Strehlitz ( castrum strelcense ) built by his father in 1303 .

Politically, Albert continued his father's pro-Bohemian policy. On January 17, 1291, together with the Teschen Duke Mesko I , he had concluded an alliance with King Wenceslaus II in Olomouc , with which the two Upper Silesian dukes undertook to assist the Bohemian king in the acquisition and enforcement of his rights and lands against everyone . Like his brothers assumed Albert his country in 1327 as a fief of the crown of Bohemia and thus reached the connection to the German Reich . As early as 1326, he granted Strehlitz city rights.

Before 1347 Albert married Agnes († 1371), a daughter of the Magdeburg burgrave Burchart von Hardegg . The only child of the marriage was their daughter Elisabeth, who married the Kujaw duke Władysław Biały .

Albert financially supported the Himmelwitz monastery founded by his father . After his death he was buried in the monastery church. Since he did not leave any male descendants, the Duchy of Strehlitz passed to his nephew Bolko III. from Opole .
