Career

After graduating from high school in Attendorn in 1902 , Boerger went to study at the Technical University of Hanover . However, family reasons forced him to return to Grevenbrück in order to devote himself entirely to his father's agriculture for three years. Under his leadership it was possible to increase grain production many times over and to fundamentally improve the food situation in the country. La Plata wheat developed into a world-famous product.

On July 12, 1954, the agricultural faculty of the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn awarded Boerger an honorary doctorate in agriculture . He is honored as a scientist "who already dealt with a topic of global importance in his dissertation and thus initiated the modern development of forage crops, who, as an excellent plant breeder, created varieties with the highest productivity and recognized the crucial importance of the quality problem early and tried to solve it , and who, as a sovereign researcher and teacher, gave a universal view of our findings in the entire field of agriculture in its manifold interactions and thus contributed significantly to increasing the reputation of German science in the world ”.

In 1935 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina Science Academy . During a visit to Germany in 1954, he was awarded the Great Cross of Merit for the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .
