Albert Burckhardt

Albert Burckhardt-Finsler (born November 18, 1854 in Basel ; † August 2, 1911 there ) was a Swiss historian and politician ( FDP ).

Life

Albert Burckhardt, the son of a baker pies in Basel, graduated from high school after first a law degree in Basel and Leipzig , which he in 1878 with the promotion of Dr. iur. completed. He then studied history at the University of Zurich . 1882-1892 he worked as a high school teacher for history and geography in Basel. In addition, from 1880 he was a private lecturer in history and from 1890–1905 associate professor for Swiss history at the University of Basel . In addition, he worked from 1883–1902 as curator of the Medieval Collection and the History Museum, which opened in 1894 . In 1890 he was one of the founders of the Basler Verkehrsverein and in 1905 he was the first president of the Swiss Association for Homeland Security .

Albert Burckhardt was also politically active. 1893–1902 he was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt . In 1902 he was elected to the government council, an office he held until 1910.
