Albert Dovecar

Albert Dovecar (born July 19, 1937 in Tužno ; † June 7, 1962 in Fort du Trou d'Enfer near Marly-le-Roi ) was a French non-commissioned officer of Croatian origin and a terrorist in the OAS . He was sentenced to death in a French court and executed for his involvement in the murder of French policeman Roger Gavoury in Algiers .

biography

Dovecar was born in Tužno, Croatia. He joined the French Foreign Legion on April 5, 1957 . He signed up there in Marseille under the name "Paul Dodevart" and claimed to have been born on February 20, 1938 in Vienna. He completed his basic training in Mascara , Algeria. Then he was assigned to the 1st Paratrooper Regiment of the Foreign Legion. When he was made sergeant on June 16, 1960, he reverted to his old name. He took part in the Algerian War and was awarded three times and wounded once in battle. He took part in the Algiers coup in 1961 and joined the illegal terrorist organization armée secrète (OAS) on April 27, 1961 .

Within the OAS, Dovecar became head of a Commando Delta , a terrorist unit, under the command of Lieutenant Roger Degueldre . Dovecar and Claude Piegts murdered Commissioner Roger Gavoury on May 31, 1961 on behalf of the OAS. On October 11, Dovecar was arrested in Algiers along with five accomplices.

He was, among other things for murder sentenced to death , and on June 7, 1962 at d'Enfer Trou du Fort in Marly-le-Roi , along with Claude Piegts shot .

A total of 3680 people were convicted of membership in the OAS or of crimes committed in this context, 41 of capital offenses. Of these 41, however, only four were executed: Jean-Marie Bastien-Thiry , Degueldre, Piegts and Dovecar.
