Claude Piegts

Claude Piegts (born January 1, 1934 in Castiglione (today's Bou Ismaïl ), Algeria , then French department ; † June 7, 1962 in Fort du Trou d'Enfer , Marly-le-Roi , France) was a terrorist of the Organization de l'armée secrète (OAS).

biography

Piegts belonged to the so-called Pied-noirs , European origin colonialists Algeria regarded as inalienable part of France and in the Algerian war set against an Algerian independence. Piegts worked as a businessman and joined the illegal OAS. Here he was a member of a Commando Delta , a unit whose aim it was to carry out murder and terrorist attacks. His unit was commanded by Lieutenant Roger Degueldre . Together with his accomplice Albert Dovecar , he murdered the French commissioner Roger Gavoury on May 31, 1962 on behalf of the OAS . Piegts was convicted of murder by a military court sentenced to death , and by a firing squad executed .

Claude Piegts was buried in the cemetery of Le Touvet in Isère .
