Life

The son of a railway official from the Vogtland went on a journey after an apprenticeship as a lathe operator and settled in Dresden in 1904. There he was a metal worker until 1918. Ebert joined the SPD in 1890 and switched to the USPD in 1917, where he became chairman of the Dresden- Trachenberge local group . Shortly before the end of the First World War, he was drafted into military service. In France he was captured.

After his return to Dresden he became active again in the USPD and in 1920 advocated the unification of the party with the KPD. In the state elections in November 1920, he entered the Saxon state parliament for the USPD (Left) list and was a member of it until 1922. Due to the union of the USPD left with the KPD in December 1920, he joined the KPD parliamentary group in the state parliament.

As a member of the KPD district leadership in East Saxony, he was primarily responsible for youth work. During the March fighting in central Germany in 1921, he acted as a courier between Dresden and the Mansfeld region . At the beginning of the 1920s, Ebert was also chairman of the works council at the Dresden metal factory Seidel & Naumann . From 1923 Ebert worked full-time for the KPD headquarters and was mainly involved in illegal border work and the distribution of literature. In 1928/29 Ebert was administrator of the Reichsparteischule Rosa Luxemburg in Dresden. From 1931 he was a member of the management of the KPD sub-district of Dresden.

After the " seizure of power " by the National Socialists, Ebert was unemployed. His house was searched several times and he was briefly detained several times. Ebert died shortly after another house search.

His brother Emil Ebert was also a member of the Saxon state parliament for the SPD from 1926 to 1929.
