Albert Ludwig Grimm

Albert Ludwig Grimm (often mistakenly Ludewig due to a typographical error in the first edition of his Kindermahrchen ; * July 19, 1786 in Schluchtern ; † December 1, 1872 in Baden-Baden ) was a German writer , educator and politician . Like the brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm , who were not related to him , he made contributions to Achim von Arnim's and Clemens Brentano's Des Knaben Wunderhorn collection and was enthusiastic about collecting folk traditions.

Life

Grimm studied theology and philology at the universities of Tübingen and Heidelberg from 1804 to 1806. From 1807 he worked first in Weinheim as a teacher, later as head of the education department. In 1809 he published the first volume “Kindermährchen”, which was followed by numerous other works.

From 1829 to 1838 Grimm held the office of mayor in Weinheim and, as a supporter of the moderate progressive party, was a member of the second chamber of the Baden state parliament several times .
