Albert Oberhofer

Albert Friedrich Oberhofer (born August 5, 1925 in Veitsch ; † July 31, 2016 ) was an Austrian engineer , business economist and university lecturer . He was Rector of the Montan University Leoben from 1974 to 1979 and from 1991 to 1995 .

Life

Albert Oberhofer attended a technical college for mechanical engineering after high school . This was followed by studies at the Montanistische Hochschule Leoben, which he finished in 1950 with the graduation as a graduate engineer . In 1956 he received his doctorate from RWTH Aachen University as Dr.-Ing. with a dissertation on the hot blast cupola furnace in the Siemens-Martin factory . From 1951 to 1957 he was assistant and later operations manager in the steelworks of Hahn'sche Werke AG Duisburg , then department head for business administration at Bochumer Verein AG in Bochum.

In 1963 he was appointed full university professor at the newly founded Institute for Economics and Business Administration at the Montanistische Hochschule Leoben, where he stayed until his retirement in 1995. From 1974 to 1979 and from 1991 to 1995 he was elected rector of the Montanuniversität Leoben . During his term of office, the implementation of the University Organization Act 1993 fell , and the Institute for Structural and Functional Ceramics and the Institute for Automation were founded during his rectorate.

He spent most of the last few years in Millstatt am See . He died on July 31, 2016 at the age of 90.
