The University of Miskolc ( Hungarian: Miskolci Egyetem ) in Miskolc is a technical university that specializes in mining but has meanwhile also been expanded to include other departments and with 13,602 students in 2008 the largest university in northern Hungary.

history

It was founded in 1949 by a resolution of the Hungarian Parliament, but can look back on more than 270 years of history, as its predecessor institution, the Mining Academy in Selmecbánya , was founded in 1735 under the reign of Maria Theresa . András Torma is the rector of Miskolc University.
