The Pannonian University of Veszprém ( Hungarian : Pannon Egyetem , Latin : Universitas Pannonica ) is a state university in Hungary . Its headquarters and main campus are in the city of Veszprém ; another important campus is located in Keszthely and Nagykanizsa. The current rector of the university is András Gelencsér.

history

The university's official founding date is 1794. The Veszprém campus emerged from the former Faculty of Chemistry at the Technical University of Budapest, which was founded on June 16, 1949, and in 1951 became an independent university with the name University of Chemical Industry Veszprém. Due to its now considerably expanded range of subjects, the university was renamed the University of Veszprém ( Veszprémi Egyetem ) in 1990 . With the integration of the Agricultural Faculty Georgikon in Keszthely and now several university locations in Central and Western Transdanubia , it received its current name on March 1, 2006. The name of the university refers to the Pannonian Basin .
