biography

Albert Schweizer grew up in his parents' farm in Bärenwil and attended school in Langenbruck and later in Waldenburg . He was a stubborn fellow, but he was constantly struggling with his health. He was unable to fulfill his greatest career wish, a veterinarian , and he was forced to turn to philology and art history , studying the French language and art history in Lausanne .

Because of his illnesses, however, he took up paintbrushes and palettes more and more often and found his new way of becoming a painter in his homeland through tough self-study . He loved the play of colors in wondrous nature and brought it to life in his oil paintings . In 1914 he was able to exhibit six of his landscape paintings for the first time at the Christmas exhibition at the Kunsthalle Basel . He let his skills, painting style and composition of colors mature and further exhibitions followed in Olten , Solothurn , Balsthal , Liestal and Basel . Again and again, the painter was drawn beyond the borders of his homeland to the cities of art in Italy and France, and so he found many friends and lovers of his work. Albert Schweizer is not one of those great painters who have achieved fame, but he has become a master of his homeland and delighted many eyes and hearts with his pictures.
