Albert Stefan Kotowski

Albert Stefan Kotowski (born September 2, 1949 in Bydgoszcz , Poland ) is a Polish historian .

Kotowski studied history and education at the Nikolaus-Kopernikus-Universität in Thorn from 1970 to 1975 . In 1981 he received his doctorate with the thesis "The Theater German Stage in Posen and Pommerellen 1918–1939" at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Posen . From 1988 to 1989 he used a scholarship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn , during which he finally moved to Germany for a few years. In 1996 he completed his habilitation at the Albert Ludwigs University in Freiburg with a thesis on "Poland's policy towards its German minority 1918–1939".

From 2003 to 2012 Kotowski was Professor of Central and Eastern European History at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn. As early as 2008 he became a professor at the academic department for Modern General History and Migration History at Casimir the Great University in his hometown of Bromberg . Since 2012 he has been a full professor at this.

In addition to his work as a university lecturer, Kotowski is an active member of numerous German and Polish scientific associations. In 2002 he was appointed CEO of the Polish Science Forum in Germany.

His research focuses on the recent and recent history of the Republic of Poland and German-Polish relations. He also deals with church history , minority issues , nationalism research and Ukrainian history.
