Albert Wüst (born November 23, 1840 in Mergentheim , † February 25, 1901 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German agricultural engineer . As a professor of agricultural engineering and melioration , he taught at the Martin Luther University in Halle-Wittenberg from 1873 .

Live and act

Albert Wüst, son of a city pastor, interested in technology at an early age, first attended the Polytechnic in Stuttgart and then began a practical career as an engineer in a machine factory. From 1863 he worked for several years in an agricultural machinery factory in England. In 1869 he took on a managerial position as a production engineer in a machine factory in Reutlingen . Due to several publications in agricultural science journals, the path to a doctorate opened up for him . In 1871 he obtained his doctorate at the natural science faculty of the University of Bonn with the dissertation " Theory of Centrifugal Regulators ".

In 1872 Wüst received a job as a lecturer in physics and engineering at the Agricultural Academy in Bonn-Poppelsdorf. In 1873 he followed a call to the University of Halle (Saale) as the successor of Emil Perels to the chair for agricultural engineering and amelioration . In 1896 he had to give up teaching for health reasons.

When he started teaching at the University of Halle, Wüst also took over the management of the machine testing station attached to the university , to which he was a member of the technical commission until 1895. Of his own technical constructions, the invention of a crank dynamometer should be emphasized.

Wüst has emerged with a large number of publications . Smaller contributions appeared in the "Fühlings Landwirtschaftliche Zeitung", the "Illustrierte Landwirtschaftliche Zeitung", the "Deutsche Landwirtschaftliche Presse" and the "Zeitschrift des Verein Deutscher Ingenieure". From 1875 to 1879 Wüst was the lead editor of annual reports on " The Advances in Agricultural Machinery ". His most important book publications include an " easy-to-understand guide to field measurement and leveling " (1882) , which was published several times, and an " agricultural engineering " (1882) designed for the practical farmer . One of the most notable historical documents in the history of agriculture is his overview article on the most important implements and machines for arable and crop production, published in 1889 in the "Handbuch der Gesamt Landwirtschaft".

His son Ewald Wüst was a geology professor in Kiel.
