Alberto Székely

Alberto Székely Sánchez (born January 18, 1946 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican lawyer and was Professor of International Law at the University of Mexico from 1970 to 1991 .

After studying law at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México , which Székely graduated in 1968, he obtained a Master of Arts and a Master of Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and Harvard University . On his return in 1970 he was appointed Professor of International Law at the University of Mexico. During his teaching activities, he held visiting professorships at Arizona State University and Johns Hopkins University , among others , and from 1976 to 1979 advised the Mexican State Department on international law issues. Since 1986, Székely has also been a judge at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague , where he has specialized in environmental law issues since 2001 . He has also been a lawyer since 1991. In 2001 he was appointed by Ireland as an ad hoc judge at the International Tribunal in the MOX Plant case (Ireland versus Great Britain ) .
