The Albertus-Magnus-Gymnasium Beckum is a high school in Beckum . In the school year 2010/2011 1065 pupils were taught by 67 teachers and 11 trainee teachers in 24 subjects. The school has four courses in most levels and offers 10 advanced courses in the upper level (corresponds to five courses). The patron saint has been Albertus Magnus , Bishop of Regensburg and patron saint of natural scientists since 1960 .
history
In 1910, the Beckum magistrate decided to build a new secondary school. The humanistic grammar school was inaugurated in 1912, the in-house chapel in 1913. The coeducation was introduced 1930th From 1933 school education was under the sign of National Socialism . In the Second World War , the students had to serve as flak helpers from 1943 . It was not until 1955 that there was a new graduate class.

Extra-curricular offers
The efforts that have been intensified since 2000 to individualize and differentiate teaching and to provide supplementary offers outside of the classroom (learning center) culminated in 2008 when the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia was awarded the seal of approval for individual support . Open all day
By shortening secondary education to eight years, lessons are increasingly taking place in the afternoon. This has been countered by the introduction of the 'open full day' since 2009: a wide range of courses, activities and supervised rooms enable school attendance until 3:50 p.m. and ensure that it is integrated into an educational concept (including working groups, X-tra courses, LernStarter, Wilde Hour, silent session, homework room). Since 2010, gradual introduction of the full day (i.e. mandatory for everyone) until 3 p.m. every day.
There are three schoolyards available to students. In addition to three IT rooms, there is a self-study room with a further ten PCs and a video laboratory.
School catering
Since 1996 the school has a commercial cafeteria for school meals with the fact that in 1995 the five-day tuition was introduced; By converting the former bicycle cellar into a cafeteria (2008), the current requirements of increasing all-day operation were taken into account. A kiosk is planned in the former cafeteria for the 2013/2014 school year.
