Albrecht II, Count of Anhalt († 1362 ) was a regent of the state of Anhalt and from 1323/25 Prince of Anhalt (older Zerbst line).

Life

Albrecht II, Count of Anhalt, was still a minor when his father Albrecht I died, which is why his uncle Margrave Waldemar I of Brandenburg took over the guardianship of him and his brother Waldemar I. Later both brothers ruled together, so that Waldemar II used to live in Dessau , Albrecht in Zerbst or Köthen .

In community, the brothers acquired sovereignty over Zerbst, the Mark Landsberg and the Palatinate Saxony when the Ascanian tribe died out in Brandenburg (1320) , while Brandenburg itself, to which the Anhalt family could make legitimate claims, from Emperor Ludwig to his son of the same name was awarded.

When the so-called "false Waldemar" appeared later , the two brothers from Anhalt seemed to have the opportunity to assert their claims. They took the most active part in the undertaking to help this man, who posed as her uncle, gain possession of the mark. But their efforts failed because of the fickleness and infidelity of Emperor Charles IV. Some Brandenburg cities were pledged to them for their war costs . The so-called "false Waldemar", abandoned by everyone, lived with them in Dessau until his death, still treated by the brothers as their uncle .

Albrecht II was since 1324 with Agnes, a daughter of Prince Wizlaw III. von Rügen married and married Beatrix, daughter of Rudolf I of Saxony-Wittenberg, for the second time . From this marriage he had the following offspring:

  • Johann II. (* 1341 - † 1382), Prince of Anhalt-Köthen ∞ Elisabeth von Henneberg (1351 - April 24, 1397)
  • Albrecht († 1354)
  • Daughter († 1352), married to Albrecht VII. Count von Barby (1329 (?) -?)
  • Jutta († 1381), married to Burkhard III in 1358. von Retz, Burgrave of Magdeburg († 1387)
