Albrecht Lempp

Albrecht Lempp (born May 8, 1953 in Stuttgart ; † November 19, 2012 in Warsaw ) was a German philologist , polonist and translator.

Career

Lempp received his PhD from the University of North Carolina in 1986 . He was a research assistant at the German Poland Institute in Darmstadt, head of the “polska2000” working group in Krakow and director of the Foundation for German-Polish Cooperation and thus a promoter of international cultural projects.

As a freelance translator, he translated works from Polish literature into German, including works by Anna Bolecka , Janusz Głowacki , Stanislaw Lem , Maria Nurowska , Jerzy Pilch , Andrzej Stasiuk and Olga Tokarczuk .

Lempp died of a heart attack at home after a faint attack during the More Europe cultural conference in Warsaw. He was buried in the Powązki Wojskowe Cemetery on November 26, 2012.

Awards

In 2007 Lempp received the Transatlantyk Prize from the Polish Book Institute ( Instytut Książki ), which is endowed with 10,000 euros. According to the jury, he was one of the best-known promoters of Polish literature in Germany.
