Albrecht of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel

Albrecht von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel (born May 4, 1725 in Braunschweig ; † September 30, 1745 with Thrush ) was a Prussian major general .

He was the son of Ferdinand Albrecht II and his wife Antoinette Amalie (1696–1762).

Life

In 1738 he became a captain in his brother Ferdinand's grenadier regiment , with whom he fought against the Turks in the same year. In October 1743 he became captain of the Danish royal bodyguard on horseback. In 1744 he received his parents' permission to volunteer with the English general George Wade in the Netherlands. There he became a lieutenant colonel. In 1745 he resigned from the Danish service to join the Prussian army. Here, as major general, he took over Infantry Regiment No. 39, which previously belonged to his brother, and fought with him in the Battle of Hohenfriedberg . He died on September 30th in the Battle of Thrush . His brother Friedrich Franz became his successor as commander of the regiment .

His brother Karl I had the body brought to the Brunswick Cathedral . There he was buried in the family vault on October 19, 1745.
