Aldeia do Souto is a Portuguese town and a former municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Covilhã . The 7.6 square kilometer community has 237 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011). This corresponds to a population density of 31.2 inhabitants / km².

On September 29, 2013 the municipalities of Aldeia do Souto and Vale Formoso were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Vale Formoso e Aldeia do Souto .

history

Finds show a Roman presence in the municipality, but hardly any significant traces have been preserved. From 1835 to 1855 the parish belonged to the Valhelhas district , and since then has been assigned to the Covilhã district.

Culture and sights

Among the monuments of the community are the primary school and various fountains and sacred buildings , including the Igreja Paroquial de Aldeia do Souto (also Igreja de São João ) , which was built before 1758 .
