The diocese of Pemba ( Latin Dioecesis Pembana , Portuguese Diocese de Pemba ) in the north of Mozambique is a Roman Catholic diocese . Together with the dioceses of Lichinga and Nacala , it is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Nampula as a suffragan .

history

The diocese was founded on April 5, 1957 as the diocese of Porto Amélia from areas of the diocese of Nampula. The first bishop was José dos Santos Garcia . On September 17, 1976, the name was changed to the diocese of Pemba. The bishop also moved his residence here.
