The Archdiocese of Nampula ( Latin Archidioecesis Nampulensis , Portuguese Arquidiocese de Nampula ) is in Mozambique situated Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Nampula . It includes part of the province of Nampula .
history
Pope Pius XII founded the Diocese of Nampula with the Apostolic Constitution Sollemnibus Conventionibus on September 4, 1940 from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Lourenço Marques , to which it was also subordinated as a suffragan. With the Bull Quo efficacius on June 4, 1984 it was raised to the rank of Metropolitan Archbishopric .
It lost parts of its territory in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:
- April 5, 1957 to the Diocese of Porto Amélia ;
- July 21, 1963 to the diocese of Vila Cabral ;
- October 11, 1991 to the Diocese of Nacala .
