Manuel de Medeiros Guerreiro

Manuel de Medeiros Guerreiro (born April 12, 1891 in Santa Cruz , Lagoa , Azores , Portugal , † April 10, 1978 ibid) was a Roman Catholic theologian and bishop of Nampula .

Life

Manuel de Medeiros Guerreiro studied at the seminary of Angra do Heroísmo and was ordained a priest on August 24, 1913 . After further studies in philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University , he studied at the Pontifical Portuguese College in Rome. In 1919 he became professor of theology and prefect of the diocesan seminary in the diocese of Angra . In 1920 he also became a pastor in Angra. In 1928 he was appointed vice rector of the seminary in Angra.

On April 10, 1937, Pope Pius XII appointed him . as Bishop of São Tomé of Meliapore in India . He was ordained bishop by the Patriarch of the East Indies , Teotonio Emanuele Ribeira Vieira de Castro , on August 15 of the same year in the Cathedral of St. Cajetan in Goa; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Shillong , Louis Mathias SDB , and the Auxiliary Bishop in Goa and Damão , Manuel Marilla Ferreira da Silva .

Pope Pius XII appointed him on March 2, 1951 bishop of Nampula in the then Portuguese colony of Mozambique . The diocese of São Tomé of Meliapore was not reoccupied and in November of the following year it was united with the Archdiocese of Madras to form the Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore . He was the council father of all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council .

On November 30, 1966, Pope Paul VI. his age-related resignation and appointed him titular bishop of Praecausa . On January 27, 1971, he renounced his titular seat because of the changed allocation guidelines.
