Coordinates: 50 ° 54 '26.5 "  N , 6 ° 13' 57.2"  O The Aldenhoven Testing Center ( ATC ) is an automobile test road for wet and dry testing at the site of the former pit Emil Mayrisch in Aldenhovener district Siersdorf in the circle Düren . The ATC was officially opened on April 11, 2014 in the presence of the North Rhine-Westphalian Minister of Economic Affairs Garrelt Duin , District Administrator Wolfgang Spelthahn and the Rector of RWTH Aachen University , Ernst Schmachtenberg . The test and development project for future European satellite navigation systems are connected to the ATC automotiveGATE of Galileo Above ( A nwendungszentrum for bo dengebundenen Ve rkehr). In addition, the Film + Test Location Germany (FTL Germany), Europe's largest film set for high-speed motorway scenes, is in close proximity to the ATC. The ATC also houses the 5G Mobility Lab of the telecommunications company Vodafone , where the 5G mobile communications standard is tested.

The ATC

On the approximately 40-hectare site there is an oval track about two kilometers long, a bad road section with five different characteristics, a circular driving dynamics area with a diameter of 210 m, a 400 to 500 m long acceleration lane, a 150 m long braking section with different surfaces 800 m long handling course, which can be extended to 1200 m, as well as a slope of 5, 12 and 30%. The ATC thus offers all the prerequisites for research in the field of vehicle safety , the development of combustion engines including new hybrid drive concepts and fuel cell systems , as well as the reduction of pollutant emissions , noise emissions and fuel consumption and much more.

In addition to the official research facilities, the system is available to all small and medium-sized companies that require a special test site for their tests.

The ATC is operated by the "Aldenhoven Testing Center of RWTH Aachen University GmbH", a subsidiary of RWTH Aachen University and the Düren district. On the part of the RWTH, the institutes for motor vehicles (ika), for internal combustion engines (VKA) and for control technology (IRT) are directly involved in addition to the headquarters . In addition, the ATC was financially supported by the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia and the European Union .
