Alejandro Otero (policeman)

Alejandro Otero (* 1930 or 1931 ; † August 13, 2013 ) was a Uruguayan policeman and football referee.

Otero was born the son of a taxi driver and a teacher. In the 1960s he was head of the Inteligencia policial coordinator of the fight against the Movimiento de Liberación Nacional - Tupamaros (MLN-T). In addition, during his professional career he was director of the Escuela Nacional de Policía , the national police school, and deputy head of the Canelones Police Department . He also gained fame as a football referee. As such, he led, among other things, the match between the Copa Libertadores 1971 of the Boca Juniors against the Peruvian club Sporting Cristal . He put no fewer than 19 players off the field in the Bombonera after a mass brawl. In 2009 Otero was a member of the election campaign team for presidential candidate Jorge Larrañaga . Otero died at the age of 82.
