Aleksander Smolar (* 1940 in Białystok ) is a Polish publicist and political scientist .

Life

Aleksander Smolar studied sociology and economics at Warsaw University . From 1971 to 1989 he was in exile for political reasons, first in Italy, then in Great Britain and France. From 1989 to 1990 he was political advisor to the then Prime Minister Tadeusz Mazowiecki , and from 1992 to 1993 advisor for foreign policy to Prime Minister Hanna Suchocka .

Aleksander Smolar has been President of the Stephan Báthory Foundation since 1990 . He is also a research fellow at the French National Science Research Center (CNRS) in Paris .

Together with Marcin Król he is the editor of the Demokracja series . Filozofia i Praktyka (Democracy. Philosophy and Practice).
