Stephan Báthory Foundation

The Stefan Batory Foundation (Pol. Fundacja im. Stefana Batorego ) is an independent, non-profit non-governmental organization with the status of a charitable trust , registered with the Judicial Commercial Register under the number 0000 101194th It was from the US supervisor of many fund George Soros and Established by activists of the Polish democratic opposition in the 1980s as the first private foundation in May 1988, it works for the benefit of democracy and civil society.

The Warsaw- based foundation , which at the request of the founder was named after the Polish King Stephan Báthory (1533–1586), who came from Hungary , provides financial aid to organizations that work for the benefit of society. The foundation also supports its own projects, organizes conferences, discussions and training, and monitors the activities of the authorities. The foundation's activities are largely financed by the Open Society Institute , but also by private individuals from Poland and abroad.

The foundation is a member of the European Foundation Center in Brussels and the American Council on Foundations .

The Foundation's Council meets once a year.

  • The chairman of the council is Marcin Król - philosopher, dean of the Faculty of Applied Social Sciences and Rehabilitation of Warsaw University
