Life

The Archbishop of Lviv and Apostolic Administrator of Cracow , Eugeniusz Baziak , ordained Tadeusz Pieronek as a priest on October 26, 1957 . In addition to his pastoral work , Pieronek wrote a canonical dissertation on the collegiate chapter of the Anna Church in Krakow, with which he received his doctorate in 1960 at the Catholic University of Lublin . Further studies of canon law at the Lateran University in Rome and at the Catholic Theological Academy in Warsaw followed. After the " study Rotale had completed" Pieronek became the 1,965 lawyers at the Roman Rota admitted. He then taught as a professor at universities in Krakow, Warsaw and Rome.

Pope . John Paul II appointed him on 25 March 1992 as titular bishop of Cufruta as well as auxiliary bishop in Sosnowiec and donated to him on April 26 of that year in St. Peter's Basilica , the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were Cardinal Franciszek Macharski , Archbishop of Cracow, and Cardinal Secretary of State Angelo Sodano .

From 1993 to 1998 he was General Secretary of the Polish Bishops' Conference . From 1998 to 2004 he was the rector of the Pontifical Theological Academy in Cracow .

John Paul II accepted his early resignation on August 31, 1998. Later he was delegate of the Archdiocese of Krakow for Science and Culture. Pieronek was seen as a representative of the liberal minority of the Catholic Church in Poland and a supporter of Pope Francis . In January 2016, he criticized Beata Szydło and Jarosław Kaczyński's government for attacking constitutional institutions such as the Constitutional Court, which he described as a “negation of the rule of law”. He also spoke out against the line of the government and the majority of the Polish population in favor of accepting refugees in Poland, but also condemned what, in his opinion, Islam had too great an influence in Western Europe. On November 14, 2017, he gave the funeral speech at the funeral of Piotr Szczęsny , who took his own life in protest against the government.

Pieronek was buried in the bishop's crypt in the Kraków Church of St. Peter and Paul .
