Aleksandr Smetanin (born May 25, 1980 in Kohtla-Järve , Estonian SSR ) is a former Estonian ice hockey player who last played until 2012 for Kohtla-Järve Viru Sputnik in the Estonian ice hockey league.

Career

Smetanin began his career as a hockey player with HK Central Kohtla-Järve in his native city, for whom he made his debut in the Meistriliiga at the age of 16 . In addition to the missions for his home club, he also played for HK Spartak Saint Petersburg in the Russian Wysschaja League and HK Homel and HK Brest in the Belarusian extra league . During the 2002/03 season he moved to Tartu Kalev-Välk , with whom he became Estonian champions in 2003 and 2008 . After the second championship title with the club from the traditional university town, he returned to Kohtla-Järve, where he stood on the ice for Kohtla-Järve Viru Sputnik until the end of his career in 2012 . With the club from his hometown, he was able to win the Estonian title again in 2010.

International

In the junior division, Smetanin took part in the U20-C World Championship for Estonia in 1999 . With the men's national team of the Balts he only played in the 2009 World Cup in Division II, where he scored his only international goal with the goal of 14-1 in the 16-1 win against Iceland .
