Aleksanteri Keisala (born May 31, 1916 in Lapua , † May 15, 1983 ibid) was a Finnish wrestler . He was runner-up in the free style welterweight championship in 1951 .

Career

Aleksanteri Keisala started wrestling as a teenager in his hometown of Lapua. He was a member of the Lapuan Virkiää wrestling club throughout his wrestling career . As is common in Finland, he initially focused on the Greco-Roman style. In this style, he finished in 1940 at the Finnish welterweight championship 2nd place. In 1946 he came back to 2nd place in the Finnish championship in the same weight class and in the same style.

Then he decided to switch to the free style. A decision that should have a very positive effect for him, because in 1948, at least 32 years old, he became Finnish welterweight champion for the first time. He repeated this success in 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953 and 1955. In 1954 he became Finnish runner-up. He achieved all of these successes in the welterweight division.

In 1948 Aleksanteri Keisala qualified for participation in the Olympic Games in London . He lost there in the free style in welterweight both fights that he could deny, namely against Kálmán Sóvári from Hungary and Willy fear from Switzerland . In the final accounts he therefore only ended up in 13th place.

In 1951 he started at the World Championships in free style in Helsinki . In welterweight he won there over Heinrich Nettesheim , Federal Republic of Germany , Albino Vidali, Italy and Abdollah Mojtabavi from Iran . In the final he lost to Celal Atik from Turkey . He became vice world champion.

At the end of his international career, Aleksanteri Keisala took part in the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki. He lost his first fight there against Abdollah Mojtabavi, then won over Mehmet Islioğlu from Turkey and was eliminated from Sweden after another defeat against Per Berlin . He came in 8th place.
