Alen Bešić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Ален Бешић ; born May 17, 1975 in Bihać , Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian literary critic, translator and poet.

biography

Bešić studied Serbian language and literature at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Novi Sad and graduated with a master's degree in 2006. Since then he has written numerous literary reviews and essays on contemporary literature in his country, which have been published in various Serbian literary magazines and daily newspapers such as the Dnevnik and the Politika . He is a translator of works by English-speaking authors such as Jean Rhys , Jamaica Kincaid , Edna Annie Proulx , Joyce Carol Oates , John Robert Fowles , Tony Hoagland, John Ralston Saul and Bruce Chatwin into Serbian, a member of the Association of Literary Translators of Serbia, and he became a member of the Serbian Literature Translators Association Serbian awards for translations in 2011 and 2015.

At the invitation of the Committee for Culture and Media of the Bundestag and the Brandenburg Gate Foundation, the literary critic took part in a panel discussion at the Leipzig Book Fair 2011 on the subject of what moves the young generation of Serbian authors . He was a member of the jury for the Isidora Sekulić Prizes in 2014 and 2015. In addition to his literary criticism and translation work, he is one of the most recognized contemporary poets in his home country, and in 2012 he received the renowned Branko-Miljković for his third volume of poetry, Golo srce (Naked Heart) Prize and the Montenegrin Risto Ratković Prize. A small selection of his poems appeared in a German-language anthology by the Klagenfurt Drava Verlag in 2011. Bešić has been editor-in-chief of the literary magazine Polja since October 2007 .
