Alessio Zaccaria

Alessio Zaccaria (born June 2, 1955 in Ferrara ) is an Italian legal scholar and professor emeritus of civil law at the University of Verona .

Life

Zaccaria studied law at the University of Ferrara and graduated in 1979 Laurea family law degree at Giorgio Cian with a scripture on the subject of publicity financial circumstances (pubblicità del regime patrimonial della famiglia). In 1982 he received his doctorate with a work “La prestazione in luogo dell'adempimento” (“The achievement instead of the fulfillment”). He then was Ricercatore for civil law at the Law Faculty of the University of Ferrara until 1990.

In 1990 he was appointed to the chair for institutions of private law at the University of Trieste , which Zaccaria held first as associate professor and then in 1993 as professor. In 1993 he was appointed to the chair of civil law at the Law Faculty of the University of Ferrara.

In 1995 he took over the chair of civil law institutions at the new Faculty of Law at the University of Verona . From 1996 until his academic retirement in 2017 he held the chair of civil law there. At the same time, he has been the director of the Centro per la Ricerca e l'Insegnamento del Diritto Privato Europeo at this university since 1997 . Also from 1997 to 2011 he was coordinator of the Dottorato di ricerca internazionale in Diritto privato europeo dei rapporti patrimoniali civili e commerciali of the Universities of Verona, Trieste , Teramo and Regensburg , in the context of which he also acted as the spokesman for the double doctoral program of the Universities of Verona and Regensburg. In 2003 and 2004 he was dean of his faculty.

For the period 2014 to 2018, Zaccaria was elected by the Italian National Assembly as a member of the Italian Judges' Council ( Consiglio Superiore della Magistratura - CSM). There he headed, among other things, the Commission for International Affairs and for the CSM within the framework of the European Network of Councils for the Judiciary (ENCJ) the working group Non-judicial Members in Judicial Governance (2015/16 together with the representative of Poland ) and the working group Alternative Dispute Resolution and the Judicial Domain (2016/17 together with the representative of Slovenia ).

Zaccaria is a member of the Academie Internationale de Droit Comparé , the European Law Institute and works as an honorary professor at the Università Abierta Interamericana in Buenos Aires . He is a Fellow of the European Center of Tort and Insurance Law in Vienna and a permanent visiting fellow of the Research Center for Consumer Law in Bayreuth (with annual guest stays since 2011). He was visiting professor in Regensburg, East China University of Politics and Law ( Shanghai ), Universidad Nacional de Lomas de Zamora (Buenos Aires) and as a scholarship holder of the Ernst von Caemmerer Foundation in Osnabrück. He is also a member of SISDiC ( Società Italiana degli Studiosi del Diritto civile ), the German civil law teachers' association and the Società Italiana per la Ricerca nel Diritto Comparato .

Journalistic activities

There are also numerous responsibilities for magazines, namely for the magazine "Le nuove leggi civili commentate" (since 1992 as editor and since 1997 as a member of the board of directors), the magazines "Studium Iuris" (since 1995 as responsible director) and "La Responsabilità Civile" (as Co-Director), the Journal for Private Law of the European Union - GPR (since 2003 as a member of the Advisory Board), the Journal for European Private Law (since 1995 as the corresponding publisher), the “Rivista di Diritto Civile” (as a member of the Comitato per la Valutazione Scientifica) and the “Anuario de la Facultad de Derecho y Ciencias Políticas de la Universidad Abierta Interamericana” (as a member of the Comitato scientifico).

Awards

His monograph in four languages ​​(Italian, German, French and English) Mediazione e mandato, per tacer del contratto d'opera (Jenaer Wissenschaftliche Verlagsgesellschaft 2011) was awarded the Premio Eccellenza Scientifica (Prize for Scientific Excellence) by the Società Italiana degli Studiosi di Diritto civile in 2012 (SISDiC) awarded.

2015 he received the Humboldt Research Award of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation legal and in 2019 honorary doctorates from the universities of Buenos Aires and Bayreuth .
