Alexander Cejka (born December 2, 1970 in Marienbad , Czechoslovakia ) is a German professional golfer of Czech origin.
Athletic career
Cejka, who was born in Czechoslovakia, came to Germany as a teenager and received German citizenship .
In 1995 he won the prestigious Volvo Masters at Valderrama Golf Club , along with two other tournament victories on the European tour . After a few years in Europe, he moved to the United States, where he qualified for the PGA Tour in 2002 .
Thanks to good performance, he was able to keep his eligibility to play on the PGA TOUR in 2003 and 2004; in 2005 and 2006 he had to go through the tough qualifying school. In 2007 he was spared that, as he was able to place himself in the top 125 of the money list thanks to a strong finish in the season (two top 10 placements in the last three tournaments), which guaranteed him a right to play for the 2008 season. Apart from Alex Cejka, only Bernhard Langer , as a German, had this right to play.
The Pro-Am tournament Out of Bounds , which takes place annually before the BMW International Open in Munich and is organized by Richard Rayment (RDI Sports), Cejka's former manager, was initially called Alex & Friends .
In 2008 Alex Cejka changed his clubs. Instead of the Srixon brand, which he had successfully used on the tour for three years, he chose Callaway Golf clubs , with which he had already achieved his previous successes.
In the 2009 season Cejka was able to set a few exclamation marks on the PGA Tour, but without being able to celebrate the great success. After the first 18 holes at the Verizon Heritage in April, he was still 1st, but fell back to 13th over the course of the weekend. His appearance in May at the Players Championship , the unofficial fifth major, was even more dramatic . There Cejka was leading by 5 strokes after three rounds, but fell back to 9th place after a weak final round at the side of the runner-up Tiger Woods and was just able to save his first top 10 position in 2009.
2010 ended Alex Cejka 91st in the US PGA Tour ranking. The best result was a third place. In 2011 he was unable to obtain his license to play due to a grass allergy and in 2012 he only played a few tournaments on the PGA Tour and on the European Tour. At the end of 2012, he narrowly missed qualifying for the PGA Tour.
In 2013 Cejka played on the second-rate US American Web.com Tour , on which he finished 64th at the end of the season and thus missed the full authorization of the 50 best of the rankings for participation in the PGA Tour. At the season opener of the Web.com Tour 2014 he succeeded at the Pacific Rubiales Colombia Championship in Bogota, the first victory in the 301st appearance in tournaments on the PGA Tour (PGA, web.com, Nationwide Tour); at the end of the season he reached the 6th place eligibility for the PGA Tour.
After his return to the PGA Tour in 2015, he won a PGA tournament for the first time at the 287th start after beating four competitors in the jump-off at the Puerto Rico Open. After Bernhard Langer and Martin Kaymer, he is only the third German to have achieved this. He finished the 2014/2015 season with 71st place on the FedExcup list and thus the best placement since the introduction of the Fedexcup system in 2007.
