The Robeson Channel ( English Robeson Channel ) is the northernmost part of the Nares Strait between the Canadian Ellesmere Island and northwest Greenland . At its narrowest point the distance between the two islands is from Cape Porter (Greenland) to Cape Beechey km 24, in the north of the expanding strait up km to 80th It connects the Kennedy Channel with the Arctic Ocean belonging Lincoln Sea . During short periods in summer, the canal is not completely frozen and therefore navigable.

The Robeson Canal was discovered by Isaac Israel Hayes in 1861 and was first passed through by Charles Francis Hall in the Polaris in 1871 . It was researched by George Nares in 1875/76. He also managed the first passage from Baffin Bay to Lincolnsee on the Naresstrasse, which was later named after him. The canal is named after George M. Robeson , the US Secretary of the Navy from 1869 to 1877.
