The Parry Channel ( German "Parry Channel" ) is an approximately 1000 km long strait in the Canadian Arctic . As part of the Northwest Passage, it connects Baffin Bay ( Atlantic Ocean ) in the east with the Beaufort Sea ( Arctic Ocean ) in the west and crosses the Nunavut Territory and the Northwest Territories . From east to west, the Parry Channel is from the Lancaster Sound , the Barrow Strait , the Viscount Melville Sound and theMcClure Strait together. The road separates the Queen Elizabeth Islands in the north from numerous islands of the Canadian-Arctic archipelago in the south. At its narrowest point, between Cornwallis Island and Somerset Island , the Parry Channel is about 45 kilometers wide.
The strait is named after the British admiral and polar explorer William Edward Parry , who discovered many waters and islands in the Arctic while searching for the Northwest Passage.
