The Frozen Strait ( English "Frozen Sea Strait" ) is a strait in the Arctic Ocean , located in the Canadian-Arctic archipelago .

It is located in the Canadian territory of Nunavut , between the island of Southampton Island and the White Island in front of it in the south and the Vansittart Island and Melville Peninsula in the north. It connects the Foxe Basin in the east with the Roes Welcome Sound in the west. The Repulse Bay is north of the Frozen Strait. The strait is 80 km long and 19 to 32 km wide.

It was measured by the English navigator Christopher Middleton when he was looking for a north-west passage with the HMS Furnace in 1742 . W. Gillies Ross reported in his 1974 study distribution, migration, and depletion of Bowhead Whales in Hudson Bay, 1860 to 1915 that bowhead whales through the spring and autumn Roes Welcome Sound draw. So there is a likelihood that this will also apply to Frozen Strait.
