Alex Giorgi (born Alessandro Giorgi on December 9, 1957 in Bressanone ) is a former Italian ski racer .

biography

Giorgi was a member of the Italian national ski team from the end of the 1970s and one of the most consistent runners in his country in the technical disciplines of giant slalom and slalom . He scored his first points in a World Cup race on January 16, 1979 as eighth of the giant slalom in Adelboden . In the following seven years he finished 52 times in the World Cup . His best season was the Olympic winter 1983/84, which he finished in 9th place in the overall World Cup. This season he also achieved the two only placings on the podium: on December 20, 1983 in the combination of the 3-tre races in Madonna di Campiglio and three months later, on March 23, 1984, in the giant slalom in Oslo .

He took part in the Winter Olympic Games twice, in 1980 and 1984. At the 1984 Winter Games in Sarajevo , he finished seventh in the giant slalom. In 1982 and 1985 he also took part in the World Ski Championships. The best result is a tenth place in slalom at the 1985 World Championships in Bormio . He won three titles at the Italian Championships between 1982 and 1987.

Today Giorgi runs a sports shop in his home town of Selva di Val Gardena .
