Alex Miescher

Alex Miescher (born April 4, 1968 in Grenchen ) is a former Swiss sports official and former competitive athlete . He was an officer pilot in the Swiss Air Force . From December 2009 to August 2018 he was Secretary General of the Swiss Football Association .

Life

Miescher studied economics at the University of Geneva and the University of Bern . He was also trained as a military pilot and was a commercial military pilot from 1991 to 2009. He is a colonel on the general staff .

From 2005 he was responsible for the FDP for 10 years council his place of residence Biberist , from 2009 parliamentary leader. He ran unsuccessfully in the Swiss parliamentary elections in 2011 .

Miescher is married and has two children.

Sports

Miescher was five times Swiss champion in crawl swimming and participant in swimming world championships and European swimming championships . From 1990 to 1993 he was captain of the Swiss Swimming Federation's national team . He coached the Solothurn Swimming Club from 1999 to 2001. From 2006 to 2009 he was director of the Swiss Swimming Association.

In August 2009 he was appointed Secretary General of the Swiss Football Association on December 1, 2009, succeeding Peter Gilliéron , who was elected President. In this role, Miescher came under fire when he put the abolition of dual citizenship up for debate after the 2018 World Cup . A month later, on August 10, 2018, he resigned.
